Allan R. Bevere: SCOTUS, Public Prayer, and the Idolatrous God of Ultimate Vagueness

Allan R. Bevere: SCOTUS, Public Prayer, and the Idolatrous God of Ultimate Vagueness

Allan,

I am in total agreement with you! At one time in my life I was a chaplain at a State University and was asked to say a prayer at a gathering. The chancellor at the time was a practicing Jew and he sent word to me by another person, also a Jew and a professor to tell me that I could not pray in "that" name! I asked him what name he was referring to and he would not say Jesus name. I prayed that night to Our Father, however, I resigned my position after that because it was clear that their were boundaries placed upon the position that I could not abide.

Holiness in Action

What a fearsome word, holiness! Many Christians seem to run in fear from the thoughts and challenges of holiness, and some hide behind it, or use it as an excuse for strange behavior. The Bible says this: (Hebrews 12:10 HCSB) "For they disciplined us for a short time based on what seemed good to them, but He does it for our benefit, so that we can share His holiness." Holiness comes as we are disciplined, corrected, instructed, by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us so that we can know, understand and apply Christs principles to our daily lives. Instead of making holiness the elephant in the room let us embrace this attribute of God as God shares it with us. It will change us and impact the world in which we live.
